March WIPocalypse Update - NY Needles

Hi Everyone!

Here's my update for March - big progress by my standards but certainly small compared to so many of you who do such beautiful stitching.

I did not finish all of my kitties for the birth sampler, but made pretty good progress on the last one so I should be done by the next update.

Part of the reason that I didn't finish the kitties is that I got tired of all of the quarter stitches so decided to pull out something else.  I had the "Clean" portion of my LK Clean/Dirty puppies all kitted up so I got that out and I finished it!  It felt like a whole new project start and then I realized that is was on my WIPocalypse list since I had made the "Dirty" puppy a few years ago.  I'm going to finish it as a reversable design for my dishwasher since I never know if the dishes are clean or dirty!  Here are the pics of both.

Other than that, not a lot of other progress since the last update.  A few other bows for my daughter...but will hold off on pictures for now.

Thanks for reading everyone - I will look out for all of your updates as well.

Feb WIPocalypse Update - NY Needles

Hi everyone - at long last here is my February update.  I was able to make some reasonably good progress on the kittens in the birth sampler for my neice.

Here is the finished one on the top right:

And here is the finished on on the bottom left (with block):

I only have the bottom right kitten with block and the wording left so really quite close.

I stitched a little on my princess and the pea needlepoint but hard to show any material progress.

And lastly I was able to make two sets of very cute hair ribbons for my daughter for Valentines day.  Here they are:

Thanks so much for reading - this group has really helped me to make some real progress this month.  And great job to everyone else - I've really enjoyed reading your own blogs and updates.  There are some wonderful projects going on out there.

Best,
Anna

So, after starting to list out all of my WIPs for the WIPocalypse, I decided to do a little online shopping as well!  I had meant to buy these over the Super Bowl sale last weekend but missed the deadline by about an hour.  That did give me a little more time to browse.  Here is what I picked-up.

Barbara Ana Designs:  I hadn't seen this designer before and she had a ton of cute things so I had to get some.
Christmas Robin scissor fob (I love the double fobs!):
Owl-o-ween scissor fob:
(the finishing is very cute!)
Made with Love Charms:

Also, this scissor block and matching ruler:
And these scissors too:
And these heart "buckles"

I intentionally avoided a lot of charts since I have so many started and in my stash, but the accessories were fun.

Will be putting on the finishing touches of my progress for the February update in the next day or so.  Since I only had my first post at the end of January I am trying to gradually work to get in sync with the full moon cycle but I did want to have some actual tangible progress to make.

Non-XS stash enhancement

Just a short update on some non-XS purchases.  I've been actually making some progress on my XS projects which I will update on the next WIPocalypse deadline.  In the meantime, I have received some orders that were fun to open and I'm excited about working a little over the weekend on these other projects.

First, I received an order of ribbons and accessories for my hair-bow making for my 2 year old daughter.  Here are some pictures of some new ribbons and also some back-less buttons that I use in the centers of the hair bows.  A number of them are holiday (Halloween and Christmas) but some others I plan to use for some bows for all seasons.  Here are some pics (one set of the ribbons are sparkly - not sure if it shows up on the picture).

I also picked up a new glue-gun that I wanted since it has several different tips - including (most importantly) a flat tip.  Here's the new glue gun and a close-up on the other tips.

I also picked-up some ultra-discounted Sizzix die-cuts as well as some half-price storage boxes.  I accidentally must have put two of the sizzle snowflakes in my cart, but I think that they were super cheap so I need to figure out what do to with my extra one.  Here are the boxes and the die-cuts that I got - pictures aren't great but  you'll get the general idea.

I also received my Spring Just Cross-stitch magazine today in the mail. I have to say that aside from one small recurring pattern, I really haven't had much I would even consider in this magazine in many years. I do like the ornament issue but I don't think I have the same preferences any longer.  I have started subscribing to Cross-Stitch and Needlework and I like that very much.  I don't care for any of the UK publications.

What do you like and what do you subscribe to???

Lastly, tomorrow starts the Silver Needle super bowl weekend sale (20% store wide - no affiliation, just a happy customer).  So, I am planning to pick-up some XS supplies and who knows what else.  I will post what I finally pick-up.

Hope everyone has a great weekend - I'm hoping to make good progress on my WIPs.

WIPocalypse January 2012 Update

Hi - So this is a little late (e.g., after the full moon), but since I didn't join the WIPocalypse project until after the full moon I decided that I would try to post some progress before the end of the month of January.

So, in terms of progress, I did finish my daughter's mittens and they turned out really well.  Here's the final picture (not much different from the original WIP but it is still something that I actually finished).

[ok - one of the mittens is slightly smaller but not noticeably].

Second, I finished another of the kittens on the birth sampler for my niece.  I still have 2 more kittens, two blocks and the name and birth information and then I am finished.  It's a really cute piece but the kittens all seem to be completely partial stitches so it's actually not that fun to stitch.  The backstitching really makes the piece and the end result is great, but it's not one I would do again.  So, here's the picture of the next kitten.

I was going to work more on the kittens and also on my needle case that I need to finish, but I was at Michaels and they had this really pretty multi-colored yarn so I instead made a small crochet bunny for my daughter - she loves it!  It was fun to make and turned out pretty well - a nice change of pace.

Lastly, I did spend about 2-3 hours on my needlepoint and was able to almost complete another "mattress" in the princess and the pea.  Here's what it looked like before my last stitching.

It's pretty hard to tell what is stitched and what is not, but let's just say that I've completed about the lower quarter of the piece.

So, that's a summary of my accomplishments (??) for the month.  I've just really started to focus on all of this again with renewed focus so hopefully I can continue into next month.  I'm going to try to get caught up for the February moon and be on the same cycle as the rest of the group.  I'd like to finish off my needle case this month and also get close to finishing the birth sampler.

So, thanks to anyone who actually looked at this - I check most (not quite all) of the other updates on the WIPocalypse site and it's such fun to see all of the different projects and ideas that everyone has.

Hi and welcome to my first blog posting.

So why did I start this? I was browsing through the Chatelaine Yuku board today (it had been several months) and i saw many references to the WIPocalypse for 2012. Needless to say i was intruiged. After a little research, which was not too challenging, I came across the site for this fun event at Measi's Musings blog.

Now, I am completely the type of person who loves to start new projects but I am terrible at finishing things. So i decided to get this blog going and to define some goals for finishing some of my projects.

My first and very simple goal is to finish the mittens that are 90% complete for my daughter. Here is a picture of where they stand tonight.

My next immediate goal is to finish the birth sampler for my neice who was born in September of 2011. Here is where this stands as well.

Over the next few days I am going to catalog my priority wips and status. I hope that keeping this blog will help me focus and stay excited about finishing so many of my great projects that are well in progress.
